I, too, was impressed with his matter of fact honesty that he was just doing something that could save himself from getting shot. His quick thinking and decisive action -- instead of freezing up and cowering (still understandable)-- is to be celebrated.
Pretty sad that some here denigrate the President's reaching out because they hate him so much. But it fits the narrative that NOTHING Trump does can be good or sincere.
Trump has been partly responsible for developing a reputation of insincerity.
