Lycos E-Mail Service Shut Down Until Friday Fri Sep 5,12:26 AM ET Add Technology - Reuters Internet Report to My Yahoo!
SEATTLE (Reuters) - Lycos, the Web portal that is part of Spanish Internet provider Terra Lycos (TRR.MC), said on Thursday that its e-mail service was shut down and would not be available before Friday.
"Lycos Mail continues to experience technical problems," said a notice posted on the Web site, which said that it was aiming to restore service by 12 p.m. Pacific time on Friday.
A representative of Lycos could not be immediately reached to comment on reports that Lycos lost its mail service on Tuesday during a software upgrade.
Lycos said that it would make sure that all new e-mail would be received and become available when service is restored.
According to Netcraft, a Web service that tracks server performance and systems, Lycos Mail runs on Linux (news - web sites)-based software, which can be copied and modified freely.
