You have forgotten more about trading than I will ever know, but the compelling thing about the "Ten Cents A Dance" rule is that it allows you many stabs at gaining a money-making entry point without reducing you to "buying a new lunchpail."
I'm going to continue with it for a while and I will keep you posted. Incidentally, Dow components--undoubtedly because of their size--lumber around more predictably than any other issues. This is what makes this method useful, IMHO.
