I hear you. Globalisation is wonderful for corporations, not so wonderful for individuals and small communities, in my experience.
I have always admired the Dutch as a literate and open minded population with an extremely developed work ethic, and and a good sense of humor as well. Just my experience from my travels and those I have met.
