No clue about franchises. I did get to play with the software though it wasn't connected.
The hold is up the terminals themselves. They have to be built, they've been waiting for the final set of terminals to arrive. A few of the tables and all of the bar seats were terminal-less. They've finally been built, shipped, and are in a town about 30 minutes away (I'm being somewhat vague on purpose). Next week they will put them in, upload all the software to them all, and test-run everything.
Management is not promising anything for next week, but I was told I should at least be ordering beer/food and open to the public next week for sure. I'm skeptical about that, but we'll see.
Also the "official" grand opening won't be for a month after the soft opening. This will give them a full month to make changes, talk to customers non-stop and get feed back. See what they're confused about with ordering, changing buttons, etc. etc. etc. Then in one month the "official grand opening" which basically just means it will be adveritised heavily at that point.
Another thing is that every week there will be changes so anybody visiting a mere once a week will get a different experience every time instead of the same old stale experience with your typical restaurant. It's very cheap and easy to change things when half the place is computerized.
What else? Tons of stuff.....but instead of writing an essay, I'd prefer to answer questions.
Hmmm....upon entering you give your name and get an RFID (?) chip-card. You swipe it against the machine and it remembers you, what you ordered before, your name, etc. Very personalized cool thing.
Due to the projections and the terminals, by the way, it was mentioned that they can rent the place out, or at least sections, to offices wish to conduct business meetings. The terminals are set up for presentations to be displayed perfectly all while everybody is enjoying a meal of course. Lots of things can be customized for business meetings, parties, etc. Very cool.
