International condemnation of Donald Trump is growing after reports the president used an expletive during a meeting about immigrants from Africa, Haiti and El Salvador. While meeting with lawmakers, Trump reportedly said, "Why do we want all these people from Africa here? They're shithole countries ... We should have more people from Norway." Trump also reportedly said, "Why do we need more Haitians? Take them out." Earlier this morning, Trump wrote on Twitter, "The language used by me at the DACA meeting was tough, but this was not the language used. What was really tough was the outlandish proposal made - a big setback for DACA!" Trump's remarks come weeks after The New York Times reported Trump had also disparaged Haitians and Nigerians during a closed-door meeting in June. Trump said Nigerians would never "go back to their huts" if they came to visit the U.S. As for Haitians, Trump said they "all have AIDS." Trump's latest remarks come just after his administration announced it is ending temporary protected status for up to 250,000 Salvadorans who have been living in the U.S. since at least 2001. Last year, the Trump administration announced it is also ending temporary protected status for tens of thousands of Haitian, Nicaraguan and Sudanese immigrants living in the United States. Trump's remarks from Thursday have been condemned across the globe. We speak to Haitian-American novelist Edwidge Danticat as Haitians mark the eighth anniversary of the devastating 2010 earthquake. Edwidge Danticat is the author of several books, including The Farming of Bones [ https://www.amazon.com/Farming-Bones-Edwidge-Danticat/dp/1616953497 ], which won an American Book Award. https://www.democracynow.org/2018/1/12/completely_racist_edwidge_danticat_on_trumps[with embedded video, and transcript]

There’s a new tax law in town. It passed without a single vote from Democrats in the House or the Senate, and it’s a huge windfall for the richest Americans, including President Donald Trump.
But Republicans didn’t just want any new tax law, they wanted to reform the tax code. To give the richest Americans a big tax cut while still funding the government’s essential functions, like building roads and flying fighter jets, the GOP needed to find tax revenue somewhere else. To do that, they had to start taxing income that used to be tax-free, by closing loopholes and eliminating deductions.
If all of that sounds boring and confusing, fear not. We’ve broken it down in this video. Just don’t blame us if it leaves you craving cereal.

Donald Trump’s now infamous remarks during a Thursday meeting on immigration have sent the news cycle (and possibly America's diplomatic standing in the world) into a tailspin.
The silver lining to the fallout from Trump’s racially inflammatory comments is getting to watch the way different cable news personalities handle verbalizing the expletive. Some expressed outrage, while others seemed happy to take up the shithole mantle as a unifying badge of honor, much the same way that Trump supporters have co-opted “deplorables.”
Anyway, here’s a bunch of talking heads saying “shithole.”
Though opinions on the topic vary, the Trump presidency either marks the death of satire or a golden age for comedy. Some late night hosts have seen their ratings rise due to the “Trump Bump,” while other comedians have talked about their struggle in dealing with the absurdity of his administration in their act.
But is America getting tired of laughing at the antics of their president? And how are comedians coping with the phenomenon of “clapter”? Vice News sits down with a panel of comedians — Anthony Atamanuik, Dulcé Sloan, Judy Gold, Jordan Carlos, and Aparna Nancherla — to talk about their experience with comedy in the age of Trump.

'Media is collateral damage': Publishers react to Facebook's sweeping News Feed changes In a dramatic shake-up, Facebook said it would start playing up status updates from friends and family in its News Feed, effectively deprioritizing content from media publishers and brands. Publishers are likely to take a hit and are bracing for a dramatic effect on their businesses. "Media is collateral damage," said Derek Mead, Vice Media's global executive editor.
