That's true, especially if the price keeps some away. I've been watching the news here in CA this morning (which has been showing big lines that have been there all night outside of Oakland dispensaries though they didn't mention the name of the dispensaries) and they said taxes are going from 14% to 34%. That is not stopping new consumers though, who may have never purchased MJ in the past so really have nothing to compare the price to.
I live in Lillington, NC. When I moved here in 1994 you could not buy a beer at the Pizza Hut. I think it was around 2000 that they finally made it legal to go to a restaurant in my county to have a beer. They recently just made it legal at some restaurants in North Carolina to have a mixed drink at 10:00am instead of at noon on Sundays. I think I might be long gone before I see a place selling any MJ around here.
