Regardless of what you think of the company there is potential for movement in this stock given the number of companies promoting it...here are some of them along with a company profile....
STS was created to carry out the business of developing safety products for the trucking industry. The proprietary systems developed by STS will be marketed worldwide through the well-established global trailer manufacturer and dealer network. It is the Company’s intention to develop strategic alliances with trailer manufacturers throughout the world.
STS has developed two proprietary technologies. The STS Accident Control and Anti-Jackknife Systems prevent tractor-trailers from losing control and jackknifing.
By mechanically limiting the degree of rotation of the tractor relative to the trailer these systems empower drivers with the ability and confidence to use the full braking and steering capabilities of the tractor-trailer without the fear of losing control, rollover or jackknifing.
The STS Systems are designed to be efficiently incorporated into new trailer manufacturing and easily installed onto existing trailers.
There are over five million trailers currently in use on the road in the United States and Canada and over 300,000 new trailers are sold annually.
STS will concentrate its marketing program to work with the OEMs and their established dealer networks. Trailer manufacturers have a well-trained sales, service and distribution network spanning from Alaska to Florida. By working together with this well-organized group of professionals, STS will ensure its technology will be readily available anywhere in North America.
The STS Accident Control and Anti-Jackknife System is a unique life saving, accident prevention, and environmental protection device that employs basic mechanical principals and laws of physics.
The STS System saves lives and property by mechanically limiting the amount of rotation of the tractor relative to the trailer giving drivers the upper hand in emergency out-of-control situations.
The STS System mechanically limits the degree of rotation to a safe angle redirecting the potentially dangerous kinetic energy through its engaging bar, which is attached to the underside of the trailer. The kinetic energy that could become an uncontrollable sideways swing is now redirected forward onto the front axle of the tractor. Since the front wheels are part of the steering axle the driver can turn into the skid optimizing overall vehicle stability.
The system that was tested by Canadian and US authorities was also forensically audited by an independent engineering firm to report on how the Accident Control System stood up to the rigorous testing and the hard hits. The tested system withstood over 100 hard impacts, some at speeds of up to 60 MPH. The Bacon Donaldson Engineers were impressed and reported that the system only deviated 5/100 of an inch from its original specifications.
The analogy has been drawn between the STS Accident Control and Anti-Jackknife System and lightning rods. Both systems are engineered to safely redirect a sudden, uncontrolled bolt of energy to the ground in such a fashion that minimizes personnel and property damage.
By steering in the opposite direction of the skid the attitude of the tire tread runs truer to the road surface, which improves driver control. Because there is additional force being applied to the steering tires traction and maneuverability are enhanced.
The effect of the System empowers drivers with the ability and confidence to use the full braking and steering capabilities of the tractor-trailer, without the fear of losing control, rollover or jackknifing. STS successfully completed its Canadian testing in October, 1999 at the Pacific Traffic Education Centre (PTEC), in Vancouver, British Columbia.
PTEC is a joint venture of the Insurance Corporation of British Columbia and the Justice Institute of B.C. PTEC also promotes traffic safety through its affiliation with organizations such as the Institute of Police Technology & Management, University of North Florida, The British Columbia Safety Council, University of British Columbia Accident Research Team, Federal and Provincial Crown Corporations and private industry.
STS successfully completed its American testing at the Transportation Research Center (TRC), East Liberty, Ohio in early November of 1999. The TRC is the most widely recognized and respected independent transportation proving ground in the world.
The independent tests were an unequivocal success with the System operating flawlessly in all test permutations.
The TRC testing was documented under full instrumentation including angles of articulation for both jackknife and trailer swing, incident entry acceleration, speed, lateral traction, braking reaction time and emergency stopping distances.
The TRC Report states; “The purpose of this testing was to demonstrate that the STS Accident Control and Anti-Jackknife System neither hindered the driver’s ability to maneuver in normal highway driving events nor allowed articulation of the trailer in excess of approximately 14 degrees in emergency stop situations. In the tests performed, these demonstrations were successful.”
“...the driver was instructed to attempt to drive out of the slide after having the STS device limit articulation. The driver was successful in doing this on each attempt.”
Conclusion of the Independent Evaluations:
1. The STS Accident Control System prevents jackknifing trailer-swing and rollover of the tractor-trailer in all test permutations including ABS equipped rigs.
2. The STS Accident Control System does not interfere with normal highway operations such as passing maneuvers or obstacle avoidance.
3. The STS Accident Control System enhances the driver’s ability to maintain steering control by limiting articulation angle during the jackknifing, trailer-swing or out of control incident.
The NHTSA assisted STS with research during the American testing and STS wishes to continue research into the impact of its new technology with regard to accident control, reduced stopping distance analysis and ABS non-ABS tractor-trailer configurations.
The TRC testing confirmed that even tractor-trailer rigs with ABS on both tractor and trailer are susceptible to losing traction, which often results in trailer swing, rollover, run-off-road and jackknifing.
The TRC tests commissioned by STS confirmed that rigs operating with ABS braking systems on the tractor and standard brakes on the trailer is so dangerous that a potentially fatal trailer swing can occur at speeds as low as 19 MPH.
There are approximately four million trailers without ABS brakes currently in use in the United States and Canada. As of March 1997 all new tractors had to be equipped with ABS brakes. NHTSA officials said that the dangerous situation of mismatched brakes is a serious danger on our highways.
Independent experts and Company management believe the STS Accident Control and Anti-Jackknife System is the solutions to preventing out-of-control situations.
