Bullwink- another conspir:

re conspiracies - I am surprised at how many people think there is a gov't conspiracy behind STOCK MARKET action.

In the same light, I guess the thought did enter my mind that the recent bombing of the UN embassy in Iraq would serve US interests better than anyone else's.

-Saddam wouldn't bomb it, UN "was against" the war in Iraq.
-US would love to incite UN to facilitate more international troops in Iraq and would love to engender UN type sympathy at long last in the Iraq war venture. "Make no mistake about it, UN, Saddam is a bad guy--see, he's bombing you."
-US headlines linked UN bomb to Saddam and his weapons cache. What weapons cache????? Hasn't US been trying in vain to find weapons of mass destruction or any other weapon belonging to Saddam and trying in vain to find Saddam himself? How is it that suddenly US is dialed in to both Saddam and his weapons and can link a UN bombing to "Saddam's weapons." If the bomb was made of Iraqi military stuff, how do they get the direct link to Saddam? Left stuff from his wallet at the site?
-There have been enough lies to get us into war that I find myself not trusting any media releases about gov't action.
-I feel sorry for Americans blinded by patriotic sentiment that cannot see illegal US action. Military folk seem especially prone to this vulnerability: that is, in the name of a mistaken sort of love of Country doing things that are an abomination to the US Constitution - IMhO

Whoops, I see this should wander over to the political opinions thread, but at least I started out on the stock market!

bullwinkle, nothing would surprise me anymore; sadly, i dont think your theory, or mine, are that far fetched. Yes, every day is more amazing and contemptable than the previous. Thanks for your thoughts.

Bullwinkle, fyi:

WASHINGTON, Aug. 21 — After more than two years of internal deliberation and intense pressure from industry, the Bush administration has settled on a regulation that would allow thousands of older power plants, oil refineries and industrial units to make extensive upgrades without having to install new anti-pollution devices, according to those involved in the deliberations.

The new rule, a draft of which was made available to The New York Times by the Natural Resources Defense Council, an environmental group, would constitute a sweeping and cost-saving victory for industries, exempting thousands of indus trial plants and refineries from part of the Clean Air Act. The acting administrator of the Environmental Protection Agency could sign the new rule as soon as next week, administration officials have told utilityrepresentatives.

The exemption would let industrial plants continue to emit hundreds of thousands of tons of pollutants into the atmosphere and could save the companies millions, if not billions, of dollars in pollution equipment costs, evenif they increase the amounts of pollutants they emit.
