At that point in time, I would say Evans did the best thing for himself as the risk was extremely high that CTIX would have reached the point that IPIX is at today and B was totally out of the picture. He took the sure deal and at his stage of life, and ability to get another top job, was IMO the correct decision.
Makes one realize how far CTIX has come to evolve into IPIX.
