Your observation regarding the rate release is skewed. Your comment is Podras is not abuse deterrent because 2 tabs release at the same rate as 1.
you need to remember Podras is not to be abuse deterrent but Overdose deterrent. I do not think taking 2 pills is considered a lethal overdose.
thats why you have abuse deterrent technology integrated with overdose technology.
How is it skwewed? I didn't say 2 tabs would be lethal, although it very well could be in an opioid-naive patient, especially a child. I said taking 2 tabs of high-dose extended-release oxycodone would provide a very nice high to an abuser. PODRAS is claimed to prevent abuse by taking multiple tablets, but in fact, that is a lie. Since 2 tabs dissolve exactly like 1 tab, PODRAS does not prevent oral abuse.
Now if lethality is your concern, please see the following post on how any individual could use PODRAS-protected Rexista to commit suicide:
Any acidic household solution will work just fine, but a nice red wine vinegar, which is 6% acetic acid and has pH ~2.4, would work quickly. Pour 8 x 1 ounce shots of red wine vinegar and place one 80mg Rexista tablet in each. Wait 2 hours, then drink all 8 shots, including the residual tablet. This will deliver 640mg oxycodone within 1 hour. Good night. What a joke.
