#17 RE: originunknown #16

I remember the Spidey cartoon from the late '60's. I liked it a lot (I liked this comic book and the newspaper strip as well). Also, I remember the other Marvel cartoons from the early to mid 1960's...before they were pulled, like Johnny Quest...because, they were supposed to be too violent! What a joke! And so, the dumbing down and whimping-out of cartoons continued...as was the case with cartoons and comic books after WWII and with the requirement of a comic book code in the mid 1950's.

I don't like censorship and that sort of control from above (by folks who think they know what's best for the people or for me).

The comic books and the cartoons that were made for an adult audience have held up very well, all things considered, and over the past 50 or so years.

Why we were excited:
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
With Spidey capturing the hearts and minds of comic book fans everywhere, it was inevitable our friendly neighborhood webcrawler would evolve, and this was the show that started it all. With a heavy hand by Marvel Comics, the Spider-Man series, the first animated representation of Spider-Man, was born in 1967 and rocked on for three years, with over 70 episodes and a now-classic theme song.

Animated Spider-Man Theme Song
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
One of the greatest things that came out of this early cartoon was the nifty theme song that has gone down into corny song history. The classic theme song was written and composed by Paul Francis Webster, Bob Harris, Stu Phillips, and D. Kapross. Give a Listen HERE. http://spiderman.ugo.com/animation/1960s/60s_theme.mp3

For those that can't download the audio clip. Here are the words:

Spiderman. Spiderman.
Does whatever a spider can.
Spins a web, any size.
Catches thieves- just like flies.
Look out! Here comes the Spiderman!
Is he strong? Listen, bud.
He's got radioactive blood.
Can he swing, from a thread?
Take a look overhead.
Hey, there! There goes the Spiderman!
In the chill of night, at the scene of a crime.
Like a streak of light, he arrives just in time!
Spiderman. Spiderman.
Friendly Neighborhood Spiderman.
Wealth and fame? He's ignored.
Action is his reward.
To him, life is a great big bang-up.
Wherever there's a hang-up,
you'll find the Spiderman!
