re post..In Dubai, the government is promoting ‘city-within-city’ projects and other key developments by the single largest property development company in the UAE, EMAAR Properties, which is driven by the ruling family of Dubai. These projects include:

Dubai Marina - US$4 billion
Emirates Hills - US$300 million
Emirates Lake - US$50 million
Arabian Ranches - US$2.5 billion
Palm Island - US$4 billion
Dubai Festival City - US$2 billion
Dubai Healthcare City - US$2 billion
Dubai International Finance Centre - US$2 billion
Mall of the Emirates - US$300 million
Atlantis Hotel - US$1 billion
Burj Dubai - US$1.6 billion
Jumeirah Beach Residence - US$ 1.4 billion
Jumeirah Lakes Towers - US$ 1.5 billion

There are around 5000 construction-related companies in the UAE of various sizes and specialisations. Due to the speedy development of the construction sector and the under-developed industrial sector, products and skills suited to the market were not available in the UAE. This has resulted in the local industry having to purchase over 80 per cent of construction materials and equipment from overseas and awarding 85 per cent of major contracts to foreign companies (in partnership with local companies).
