Technology will catch up, but cutting funding for science will only impede it. I spent this weekend going to a convention and sold a lot of calcite crystals that had carbon bonding in them. Just found specimens from a unique deposit out on the desert near here, I have no alchemy ability. I feel sad for the people that are so full of regressive ideology that they cannot understand the difference between science and negative cheerleading.
