Whether it's a smart idea or not will be determined, but it's obvious that Mexico won't take the tax on their back. Mexico will retaliate in some fashion, there's no doubt about that.

Trump keeps insisting he wants Mexico to pay for the wall and IMO that's a mistake, he should have quietly done something to make them pay for it and not called them out in public about it.

Trade wars are what got Hoover in trouble back during the Great Depression. I see Trump doing the same with China in some way, so when that happens the shit will really hit the fan, but it should be great for the PM's. The market is ignoring this at the present, but if it gets closer to fruition it should take the market down.

Most of FFMGF's properties are in the U.S. and Canada I think, they may have something down in Mexico.

There's another event that this talk of taxes/tariffs is causing. What it's doing right now is tanking the Peso and making the USD stronger. It would do the same with the Yuan if the US levied a tax on them, so the effect it would have isn't good for either side. The dollar would be too strong and other currencies would be taken down too low.

The dollar denominated debt that the rest of the world has would grow and that would most likely have the China's and Japan's dumping their dollars even faster. It would open a can of worms that would roil the markets IMO.
