the only hope in some areas i have is that guys like Mattis in saying, 'if NATO didn't exist we would have to create it' which is in direct contradiction to what his boss ('NATO is obsolete') has said all along .. i guess, the campaign is over now, and he won as he likes to boast to all and sundry, so the fact that his win was based on lies really doesn't matter except for the worrying thing that so many Americans were so susceptible to the con, and that could hold something more dangerous for the future.

On that it strikes me that that trump in saying he will leave his nominees to be independent could be him simply giving himself a real cagey get-out excuse for him saying so many outrageous things during the campaign for one purpose only .. to garner votes ..
In his campaign any nod to truth was thrown aside for simple and base political expediency .. and it got victory .. that's a bit of a worry.
