"Solely"? That is impossible and a loaded question and you know it; after all they first have to be elected, and good ones compromise to get the best they can for their constituents. But that statement/question is proof of your cynicism. I refuse to be that cynical, that is all. I chose to be positive and happy in my life.

Politicians, police, military, doctors, lawyers, teachers... all mix-'n-match .. in their motives for choosing a career
politicians as a body would be neither better nor worse than the others .. some enter thinking of public service, others
enter for less altruistic reasons .. some say all cops are pigs .. some say all politicians are in it for themselves .. both are wrong.

Give a bill to a beggar it makes the giver feel good .. anything you do of your own volition carries with it a benefit to yourself .. i reckon.

How many parents become parents for their children's sake?
