I wouldn't go so far as to compare us to the countries you mentioned.

However now that Trump is the president elect you could be right.

There is a reason why one party should not control the House Senate and executive branch.

There has to be a check and balance.

EC works the same now as it always has and it will not change, in our lifetimes. In simple democracies the voters just decided which dictator will rule and it's usually the one they have again.

And so by your logic, should the Electors not care for the candidate with authoritarian tendencies who's just been elected, they could do something about that...
