In this country, you register to vote in your home state. Most states allow voters to register as a Democrat, Republican, or Independent. Some may allow people to register as, say, Libertarians or Greens; I don't known.
Vermont and a few other states don't do that. You can only register to vote; you don't register as a member of a party.
