#170 RE: DewDiligence #168

As I recall there were discussions over a year ago on the Yahoo:SRDX message board raising concerns about Bovine endogenous retroviruses and the inherent problems with xeno-transplant approval.

Raising human islets seems to me the way to go. I just hope Novocell can pull it off. This would revolutionize diabetic treatment and make SRDX investors wealthy down the road, particularly if re-transplantation needs to occur every 3-5 years. Cha-ching!

r.e. MicroIslet

This is a very similar technology to PEG encapsulation, except that they are using an alginate. I don't personally have any insights as to which might prove the superior approach.

Fortunately, we have the (significant) advantage of being farther ahead in clinical trials...although, on the downside, their website seems to suggest an association with the Edmonton group, who have a very high profile when it comes to islet cell transplantation.
