A federal appeals court will hear oral arguments Oct. 24 on the Financial Stability Oversight Council's attempt to reinstate federal oversight of MetLife Inc.(MET)

The council of senior U.S. regulators is appealing a lower-court decision that overturned the designation of MetLife(MET) as a "systemically important financial institution," or SIFI. The U.S. Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia issued an order Tuesday setting a hearing date for that appeal.

The council had been pressing for an expedited hearing of the case, which MetLife(MET) didn't oppose.
