That's fine, but once we are there and secured the general safety of Iraq's people, we had an obligation not to leave and abandon the civilians safety, as that, combined with the civil unrest in Syria, is what allowed ISIS/ISIL to become what it is today.
If we "kept the oil" in Iraq, it would better enable long term support for Iraq. Had we done that, there is not a chance ISIS would control territory ( caliphate ) in Iraq or Syria.
How do I know this? Because thats how it was when Bush left Iraq to Obama.
