There HAS been a severe lack of oversight on the part of Congress, e.g. - the DOD merged spending on the Afghanistan war effort and the Iraq war into ONE budget and Congress has NEVER demanded details. Instead, they pass 9 Supplemental Appropriation bills - NO QUESTIONS ASKED.
"...likely because of future elections..." - I agree completely.
For Sen John Warner (R-VA), Chairman of yesterday's Senate committee to complain (earlier this week) that the DOD never gives budget info is absolutely pathetic!
Warner has NEVER demanded this info from the DOD, yet he pretends to be outraged, and says the DOD never provides info.
