One of my favorite mining stock scams was Bre-X from 20 years ago. It should have been made into a movie. Had everything including maybe a murder or two. A Canadian stock that also traded on the NASDAQ as I recall.
It was unusual in that some large conservative investors and institutions lost money in it due to bogus audits.
I often mention the Geography of Stock Scams. Avoid Ft Lauderdale, Santa Monica, Utah, Nevada... and Yes, Vancouver!
