As far as I am concerned we the shareholders control the price of the stock after the merger. If the price is set at $15.00 and no one sells below that, we hold at $15.00... period. Only if shareholders start to sell their positions lower than that does the price go down. Consider this analagy. If I were to give you the winning numbers in the lottery and guarantee you that if you play these numbers you will win $1M no ifs and or buts about it (let's say the lottery is fixed and I have the numbers in advance.) You check the numbers on Monday morning andd see that I was right and you have indeed won $1M...would you sell that ticket to someone offering you $250K for it????? I don't think so...I know we cannot predict people's greed and we know that they will sell off at $10 or $5 or whatever, but the shareholders could hold the price if we hold our position and refuse to sell below that price.
