k²,

I should probably get one for the car. Was waiting for a call out only version. VA sister says they're available.

Mine is call out only when I want it to be.

IOW, even if someone calls you, you don't have to answer it.

You can turn it off when you don't need it and you also have the ability to silence the ringer.

Mine stays off until I need it, or unless I am expecting a call.

What would you do with a call out only version if you needed help back in the boonies and your rescuer couldn't find you and had to call you for more detailed directions?

FWIW, I wouldn't have a call out only cellphone. I live in VA and have never even heard of one.

Have fun,
Phil

K²...Here in Or, Qwest will give you a 30 minute cell phone acct for just 6.31 cents change... well I know they for sure a couple of years ago anyways. It was designed for us disabled people... that's how I found about it. Anybody can get one... I will not drive without now.

Just this last summer I saw my disabled uncle who fought us against getting a cell phone for years... come trucking down the road towards my place on his crutches... I thought he was going to pass out even for 30 minutes after he sat down. He had lost a fan belt… nobody would stop & help him

He got a cell the next week... we've never talked about again.

What I like most about cell phones is that you get to set everything... you can turn off the roaming (long dist' bullchit charges).

You turn off the ringer.

You know who's calling.

You can turn them off.

No long distance calls, I can call anywhere at anytime… never a worry.

And if you get the right plan... going total cellular can save you a lot of money... I never pay long distance and my phone is always with me... the biggest things to worry about are making sure you get the minutes plan, make sure get way more then you think you need... you've got to allow for prob's. The second is to make sure you turn the roaming feature off.

Like I said, I'm cellular only and I'm much happier now... a flat $51.00 a month... never different and plenty of minutes to spare.

Sounds as if you had an interesting career in the big city, ksquared. Gotta be lots of stories to tell. Never thought of Barbra Streisand as tiny. I have to admit to owning a couple of her vinyl albums, but only one CD. Somewhere along the line, I totally lost interest in her .. what do you suppose it could've been? <gg>

My only close encounter with a celeb was a well-known TV actress who was in town with another well-known TV actress filming a TV movie, including scenes in a shopping mall near my office. I went over to take a look at the moviemaking, and from the second level of the mall I spotted Actress A, who appeared to be agitated while waiting to do a scene. After pacing back and forth for awhile, she took off her jacket and slammed it to the floor and marched off, and in so doing, bumped her knee. She then hobbled toward a stairway leading up to where I was standing. I decided to go down and check out the situation and found Actress A seated on the stairs, sobbing and swearing profusely, with one of her keepers trying to calm her down. Seems that the problem was Actress B being late in arriving for the scene and always being late and always getting away with it. I walked past her without saying anything, but I'll always remember the look on her face when she looked up at me .. something like a child's face in the middle of a tantrum and perhaps a brief flash of reality that someone had witnessed her behavior.

So much for my brush with Hollywood ... <gg> .. Wish I could give the names of the actresses, but I'm too far along in life to be sued ...
