GYOG potential 90 million new cases occurring each year
Chlamydia trachomatis genital infections are increasing in both developed and developing countries, with more than 90 million new cases occurring each year. In the United States only, more than 4 million new cases occur each year. Only 1/3 of American woman that should be tested yearly are effectively tested. All pregnant women must be tested for Chlamydia. Additionally, there are approximately 2.2 million sexually active women living in Canada and 22 million living in the United States of America aged between 15 and 25 that should also be tested yearly to prevent Chlamydia infections. Untreated Chlamydia trachomatis infection can cause destruction on the reproductive organs, profoundly affecting fertility in women. Chlamydia has considerably increased in various countries including the USA, Canada, Sweden, Norway, Finland and South East Asia.
