There's a reason for that. It is the norm of the male-centric society such as ours to write off assertive women as bitchy or crazy. It's not just the men who say this. Women who say it too are complicit in the disgusting, sexist status quo.

A woman raising her voice may sometimes be necessary, because otherwise no one listens. If it had been Bernie screaming, no one would have batted an eye, because dudes gotta be macho. Gimme a break.

Peg, viciousness? defensive as in any pejorative sense? Hillary got cranky a couple of times, fair enough,
too, but vicious and defensive in any unreasonable way is an interpretation i personally didn't make at all.

On the other, before the Michigan debate i saw quite a lot of chat about the sexist line that it's more acceptable for men to raise their
voice than it is for women .. surprised to see you catering to that even though only to suggest it could cost Hillary an odd vote, or three.

My feeling directly after the debate was basically that Hillary had done the better, both contentwise and demeanor-wise.
