#250317 RE: biopharm #250315

BioPh, what gets me about Dr. Birge is that this man's cancer lab of 10 or so at Rutgers has been working on “the eradication of cancer” for ~15yrs, and all of a sudden he hooks up with Dr. Brekken & Peregrine, and now he's heading to Istalbul in June to give a talk ICHC 2016, and this is the subject he chooses: “Phosphatidylserine is a Global Immunosuppressive Signal in Cell Death & Cancer”.

Raymond Birge, PhD, is Professor of Biochemistry at Rutgers, The State Univ. of NJ, and member of the NJ Medical School Cancer Center. Dr. Birge received a BS from the Univ. of Connecticut (1984), and a PhD in Biochemical Toxicology (1989), also from the Univ. of Connecticut. He completed postdoctoral training at The Rockefeller Univ. in New York with Professor Hidesaburo Hanafusa 1989-94, was Assistant Professor in the Lab. of Molecular Oncology at Rockefeller Univ. 1994-98, and acting head of that same lab. 1998-00. Dr. Birge joined UMDNJ-NJ Medical in 2000 and currently holds a position of Professor in the Dept. of Biochemistry & Molecular Biology. Dr. Birge’s research focuses on apoptosis & cancer biology, emphasizing genes and signaling pathways that promote tumor progression, metastasis, and immune escape.
...Dr. Birge has authored ~85 scientific publications in molecular & cancer biology. http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/?term=birge+rb
“The Birge laboratory conducts basic science focused on the eradication of cancer.”
