Clearly this is bad news, but it is up to what the problem is to determine where Novartis goes from here. They may continue the trial if the safety issues are resolved, or they could try a multi dose trial with lower doses, or they could abandon the drug, at least for now.
I suspect it will take many months, perhaps over a year before we know the direction Novartis is taking.
