I'm from the great lakes... we have a rig on the side of the boat that holds a rod that drops a weight at a certain depth with a bait rig, and springs when a fish is on... I have a feeling you know this but I didn't make it clear. From the looks of your stuff, I think you've forgotten more than I know about fishing anyways. Stay safe.
