On a personal philosophy note, I became aware of how important literacy is early on. As an Irish Catholic, my life long brother is a Jew. I learned the Torah in Hebrew while he practiced reciting it for his Bar Mitzvah from taped recordings on a lent out Honeywell Reel-to-Reel. "Baruch afto ashem. Baruch afto addenoi..."
Been a fan of rote learning and engrained literacy for rites-of-passage ever since.
Steve lent me a suit while serving as the best man at my wedding when I flew home from a remote deployment to get married in Jersey. He lent me $500 in 1984 when I needed to cover a rental deposit when I started up with Lockheed.
Still arguing whether I ever paid that back, or dry cleaned the damn suit. I insist I did both.
