For.many years, we always had a botanist in our workgroup. A couple.of times each summer someone would come in with the odd-looking datura blooms and want to have it identified. The first question was always where it was found, and if the person fed songbirds. In all but one case the jimson weed.was found under or near a.bird feeder. So in mountainous areas, at least, it seemed.that it was being spread by wild bird feed that contained weed seeds. I can only imagine the song of a warbler under the effects of the extreme hallucinogenic.
