Intel first started talking about the chipset shortage in 2004. So you are saying that in that length of time, Intel wasn't able to qualify somone else's chipset, outsource one of their designs, or VIA or SiS couldn't ramp up to meet the shortfall? All all the competitors in the industry idiots?
The 2004 issue was clearly a platform transition glitch. The chipset shortage I'm talking about started in mid-'05, was long-term, well documented, and corresponds with Intel's loss of US retail market share.
