I agree that I miss a lot of opportunity by not playing such stocks, but I have a large handful of stocks that I play mostly based on tape trading, which requires me to know their trading patterns well. It takes me a while to learn new stocks at my age (you may remember about this time last year when I added CCMP and CDWC to the list) and I also keep up with the fundamentals in them, so my feeble brain is already taxed as it is.

I try to stay away from stocks I do not understand, and QCOM, EXPE, AMZN, YHOO, and EBAY all fall into that category for me.

Without trying to sound too pretentious or like a cheerleader, I would like to attempt to show what QCOM is about. I can understand why so many believe QCOM is a cult stock (it has quite a following), but it is more like a lot of people believe in what they are doing... Not only do a lot of people believe, but so do the listed companies below. Have a gander at this list of who is paying QCOM and for what part of their technology (some very BIG players in here).

Believe it or not this is all just in its infancy and if/when there is an alternative of which there is none I know of, these companies have to go through the QCOM toll gate and there is no way around it. This is not a belief, it is a fact. Also it does not matter what flavor CDMA (CDMA to xyzCDMA), QCOM gets paid and their extensive patent portfolio assures them of this. Oh and I forgot to mention they have never lost a court case. Hope this helps for some to understand what QCOM is about and if not, well I gave it my best shot 8^)
