Lovenox is only more economical than UFH when HIT (heparin induced thromobcytopenia) is considered. The drug costs, nursing costs, lab costs, etc.. assoc with UFH that are NOT assoc with HIT are still much less than the cost of any LMWH including Lovenox.
This study has been derided a bit by the West Coast medical community as reflecting the Eastern (read: New England) bias toward overdiagnosing and overtreating HIT. (In other words, we ain't buying it - yet ;-)
