#59949 RE: copperslash #59947

Copperslash,

Yeah, that's basically the way I see it, more or less...
The problem is that the FRAND rate global license + likely NDA damages is about $1b and that's probably what Vringo is asking for in a settlement...

BUT,
ZTE is saying "you guys are dreaming!! $1b is the most we will have to pay if everything goes Vringo's way in courts around the world and we're not done applying pressure to the governments in all those countries... We can drag this out for another few years and can probably flip some governments in our favor so if you're asking for $1b we have every incentive to fight on... Try $100m..."

And on we go....

I don't think ZTE pays a big boy number until there is a real and effective injunction on their sales in a major market... And I don't see Vringo accepting a low ball number..

My guess is that there's no settlement until AFTER a major hammer from Kaplan (like >$100m damages) and even then I'm guessing $500m total worldwide settlement... Could be this time next year or any day from now until then...

We need more press coverage... ZTE is trying to establish a global brand and especially US brand... Bad press will motivate them to get this out of the headlines...
