They are still busy growing the number of members while not having anything remotely resembling a common basis to build on like common tax levels, certain laws and other administrative stuff of all sorts. It's hard to say but I would guess around 2006, maybe even a bit earlier there will be signs of "disharmony".
6 months to 6 years. If and when it does fall apart seems that gold will do quite well. Wihout political union I think monetary union is impossible for long in a bad economy.
