http://www.compoundsemiconductor.net/article/96075-nanosys-announces-patent-deal-with-samsung.html

"Under the agreement Samsung will gain access to Nanosys' quantum dot patents covering a broad range of lighting and display products and technologies, including cadmium-free quantum dots."

-A video of their CEO speaking at the QD forum this past spring. Clearly outlines where they stand in comparison to both Samsung (who probably licensed tech that wasn't as developed as they currently have it) and LG (20 min in)

-Patent applications from Nanosys for Cd-Free

I'd also spend some time looking at their other patents they have (I use google patent search). The film idea is clearly theirs. I know QDV uses an edge-lit technology. Probably to avoid infringements.

SX...Nanosys states that it has CD-free QD IP...
..."Nanosys industry-leading Quantum Dot patents covering a broad range of lighting and display products and technologies, including cadmium free quantum dots."
They also maintain that their regular CdQD's are within RoHS mandates (perhaps subject to parliamentary over-ride in the future[?]).
