disco queen: I can only speak anecdotally, but I suspect that ADD and the drugs used to "treat" it have been overdone. I knww of children who have been diagnosed with ADD when they are simply bored while sitting in boring classes in front of boring teachers. And I know of one who has been helped by Ritalin. One little guy, diagnosed with ADD or ADHD, I forget which is quite healthy. But his mom is the one with the problem...and when she does her "number" he slips into what appears to be ADD, just his way of coping. With his gentle dad, he has no problem focusing for long periods of time. I'm still wrestling with the problem: tell mom what she's doing and possibly ruin a social relationship or say damn the relationship and help the child. I know what I should do, but I know too that mom won't listen [mom knows ALL] and I'll probably ruin the relationship without helping the boy.
