The world was on a gold standard during World War 1.

Again I am NOT predicting a return to a gold standard. Most improbable. But the current de facto dollar standard is doomed iMHO. As might be the currrent floating exchange rate system as well.

Gold seems bound to play a bigger role in whatever replaces the current dollar standard.
