CYAN was working on a "natural" mosquitocide but gave up to conserve cash and concentrate on astaxanthin and spirulina. This from a news release from October 1998 ...

"In the R&D area, Cyanotech continues to make progress on enhancing its unique bio-engineered mosquitocide, which combines a natural food for mosquito larvae, the microalgae Synechococcus, with natural toxins from the soil bacterium Bti. The Company is reengineering up to four Bti toxin genes to increase the toxic effect of the mosquitocide prior to making it available for initial testing, evaluation and regulatory approvals."
