Hunt did a lot of stupid things some of which were illegal and in a court battle the people that bought Hunt will hurt bad. They assumed the liabilities in the transaction. They bought inferior drill rigs and future law suits that are now coming down to roost. I certainly wouldn't want to be them. This could be settled out of court, for cash and service.The future is clearer now.
The reasons for the abandonment of Westwood #1 are plain for anyone to read in the OEH report. There is no consolation to be had for Empire's inability to even start drilling at Bellevue.
According to Mal (admittedly not the most reliable of authorities) the seismic data revealed the exact top of the Bellevue dome which is where the hole collar was sited. That is an immediate difference with the rock strata being flat-lying as compared to the steeply dipping strata encountered at Westwood.
There is nothing about OEH/Westwood that would support Mal's blusterings about an imaginary court action against Hunt and unnamed "others".
