On the reasons for the miss: I suspect it is mainly flash. When you look at the list of companies that warned because of SARS, cell phones sales, it is a who's who of cell phone companies.
There is probably a miss on processors because AMD is slipping behind a little on the top-of-the-line processors. Forget about "price/performance of the sweet spot" claims. I have seen that brought up many, many times over the past few years, and it is wrong thinking: As long as Intel has the fastest top processor, they will make up revenue on that processor as they lower price in the sweet spot.
Also, Intel is making a lot of money on Centrino right now - have you looked at the prices of those systems? People are shelling out big bucks for systems that run much slower than mobile P4 or Athlons. This allows Intel to lower the price in the "sweet spot" even more.
