If that interesting technology really works, who/what has been stopping its "potential to revolutionize the way humans grow crops – if it can be allowed to reach mass exposure" as the author asks---since 2006, 8-9 years already.
I have some past experience with each of DOW[Mycogen], MON, SYT, DD in this arena, and understand the intense competition among those entities. Pioneer[DD] and Dekalb[MON] were acquired in the 2000s[?], along with a host of other smaller companies. Bayer was in the mix too. Surely those entities would not want to be charged with somehow "suppressing" development to save each of their respective present interests.
