Mlsoft,

There are places you can hike in and pan. Some places you don't have to hike very far. With any public bridge, you are allowed 100 yards up or down stream (there abouts) to pan. (no dredging)They can be good spots also, cause every year the flooding brings down more gold.

North fork, of the middle fork, of the American River is a great spot. Lots of color in the pan.

You can lease claims from the owners also. Lots of that going on.

Also, there are a lot of gold claims that are not active. If they aren't kept up(active) and documented, anyone can get em. That's how my bro got my dad's old claim......back from our (evil) step mother. <g>

There is a website you can visit. Bro'ski said he'll let me know what it is tomorrow, though a good search would probably beat him to it. <g>

The blue bowl on the front page of that website, is my dad's invention. Frank, the guy pictured on the website, bought the patent from my stepmother after my father passed away.

After my father invented it, Frank was the first dealer to buy from me(a newbie salesman) as I traveled around to the mining shops trying to help my dad sell the thing. It works great for seperating the fine gold dust from the rest of the material.
