Hi Satman, you are not addicted.

How does one know if they are addicted to Oxycontin? I have been taking 60mg 3 times a day for close to 2 years.

Addiction is a term of abuse, and you are taking it as prescribed, which is not abusive. The appropriate non-abuse terminology is tolerance and dependence. Tolerance means that as you continue to use opioids, you have to steadily increase the amount you take in order to have the same effect. Dependence means that if you tried to stop cold turkey you would have major withdrawal symptoms. (See: Trainspotting). Withdrawal from opioids will make you wish you were dead but is not deadly. Withdrawal from alcohol and benzodiazepines (i.e. Xanax) in a dependent individual can cause withdrawal seizures and death.
