Acacia Research Corporation (CBMX, ACTG) announced today that its CombiMatrix group will collaborate with E.A.I. Corporation, a subsidiary of Science Applications International, for field deployment of CombiMatrix's influenza-screening technology for the identification of all versions of influenza A, including the highly pathogenic Eurasian (H5N1) strain. Funding for this program will be provided by the Center for Innovative Technology/Institute for Defense and Homeland Security through its Partnership Intermediary Agreement with the Department of Defense.

CBMX CEO appears on CNBC discussing the use nanotechnology in the detection of bird flu. Says it takes around four hours for them to identify the influenza from the time they get the sample. Says they have a number of gov't contracts and are working with gov't to validate the technology in a number of programs. They've worked with Roche in the past, and says there are a number of pharmaceutical companies using their chip. They are positioning themselves to address any emerging disease.
