Your statement is extremely far from the truth: "The glaciers and ice caps of Iceland cover 11.1% of the land area of the country (about 11,400 km² out of the total area of 103,125 km²"

In fact Iceland could more aptly be called Greenland. I have been there. One thing that struck me was the vast areas that were available for farming. Iceland could feed a lot more people than its inhabitants.
