Celera Genomics and research partners discover genetic markers associated w/ early-onset heart attacks (CRA) 11.13 -0.64 : CRA, the University of California, San Francisco (UCSF), Cleveland Clinic, Case Western Reserve University and Brigham Young University announce publication describing two novel genetic markers associated with an increased risk for heart attack. Neither of the two gene variants has previously been associated with heart attack. CRA says the paper will appear in the July 2006 edition of Arteriosclerosis, Thrombosis and Vascular Biology, and is currently available on the publication's website at atvb.ahajournals.org/. More than 2,000 individuals in three case-controlled were studied. CRA and partners I.D.'d novel genetic markers in two genes: VAMP8, which is involved in platelet aggregation; and HNRPUL1, which encodes a ribonuclear protein.
